Love starts by you.
When you treat yourself with gentleness and respect, you create space in your heart. Space to feel, to connect and to truly open yourself up to others. Taking good care of yourself activates natural processes in your body that reinforce feelings of joy, security, and connectedness. From this inner harmony, love can flow freely in both giving and receiving.
Self-love invites openness. The more you accept yourself, the easier it becomes to share love without expectation. Being kind to yourself and others nourishes your relationships and increases your own sense of happiness and fulfilment.
Conscious attention plays a key role in this process. Take time to regularly reflect on who you are and what you value in yourself. Give yourself a sincere compliment. Look in the mirror and name something you are proud of. Also practise accepting compliments from others without downplaying or dismissing them. Let them in and acknowledge that you deserve them.
Self-acceptance is a deep form of love. Gratitude helps you anchor that love in the present moment. By reflecting daily on the things that inspire, nourish and support you, you can strengthen your inner peace. Keeping a gratitude journal can help with this: every day, write down ten things you are grateful for, ranging from meaningful encounters to small moments, such as the warmth of the sun on your skin.
Mindfulness can support this process gently. By paying attention to your thoughts, feelings and desires without judgement, you get to know yourself better. From this awareness, self-love grows, and a natural openness to experiencing, sharing and receiving love emerges.
